I’ve been seeing a lot of comments and posts saying that AJ and Carly could be Alan and Monica 2.0, It is a possibility because they do have a very similar angry/hate chemistry like Alan and Monica had. I’m just not sure if the could have the same love chemistry.

I mean I can literally see AJ and Carly having multiple affairs and getting a divorce and her being spiteful and wanting to take everything from him and AJ saying “You want the shirt off my back!” and then you know what happens, but I don’t see them in love with each other.

Though I have been thinking that if it is done right AJ and Elizabeth could be the next Edward and Lila. I’ve only ever seen Lila and Edward ~~old~~ having more life experience than others so they were never running off to have sex (you know because people say Quiz don’t have sexual chemistry), but they were really sweet and in love and they would barely argue and she made him better and he made her stronger. So if it was written correctly then AJ and Liz could have that same future.

I really like that Nikolas is back on General Hospital, even if it’s only for a limited engagement. The show just celebrated its 50th anniversary, and the parade of illustrious returns has included Laura, Scotty and, in very brief stints, Bobbie, Helena, and even Audrey. But for me, General Hospital “history” will always be the 90s; although I’ve been watching the show since the 80s, when I was a kid and I would just hang out at my mom’s side after coming home from school, the show stuck really with me as a teen when the “teen scene” on the show was Lucky, Liz, Emily, Nikolas, and Juan.

As in life, General Hospital times change: Emily was murdered, Lucky is in Ireland, Liz has been romantically involved with both Nikolas and Lucky — although my shipping loyalties then and now are with Lucky and Liz — and Juan, who was written off the canvas ages ago, is in real life married to Rebecca Herbst, the great gal who has played Liz all this time. Like my mom probably considered herself in the 90s when she would see me watching General Hospital, I too am now a “veteran fan” and it’s gratifying that Nikolas and Liz have been around all this time.

A word about the quote that opens this post. When Bob Guza was the head writer, I admit that for a short while I liked how dark the show became. It had an edgy sophistication that was a departure from routine, to such a degree as to be stereotypical, notions of what a daytime soap opera is like. For a short while, I found the mob intrigue, well, intriguing.

And then it just got to be very depressing.

No one ever seemed happy. Under the Guza writing regime, it seemed like you would ever want to set foot in the town of Port Charles only if you wanted to end it all. But the newly revived show, under the oversight of Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini, retains that sophistication but asserts a glorious balance in which our beloved characters and even the town itself are things you actually want to root for. The line that Nikolas utters about his pants was certainly hilarious partly because of Tyler Christopher’s delivery — the look on his face was priceless — but it is also the kind of dialogue that was seldom heard, if at all, prior to the Carlivati and Valentini revival.

AJ arrives at Titular Hospital to try and find Liz. But she's already off duty so he has to chase her down.
AJ: LIZ! Let's talk.
Liz: No.
Felix: Shoo fly, don't bother us.
AJ: Come on!
But the doors close. AJ doesn't give up and he chases them down to the Floating Rib.
Felix: You do not give up, do you?
AJ: Not when I really want something. And I want a second chance, Elizabeth. Carly was nothing, it was a lie.
Felix: Buzz. Off.
Liz: No, wait.
AJ: You'll give me a second chance?
Liz: On one condition.
AJ: Name it.
Liz: You perform with me at the Nurses Ball.
AJ: Deal.
Felix: That was easy.
Over at the McMansion, Carly and Todd are still glaring at each other.
Carly: One of us is going to have to blink first.
Todd: You just did.
Carly: Did I?
Todd: Umm...yes.
Carly: Damn it.
Todd: So, you'll take me back?
Carly: No.
Tarly fans: Aww.
TnB fans: YES!
Todd: What? We could be so great together!
Carly: We could. But that's why we can't.
Todd: I'm not following.
Carly: We're a disaster waiting to happen. Let's stop it now.
Todd: But...
Carly: Goodbye, Todd.
Todd: Goodbye?
He leaves as Carly has a Sad Face on. Meanwhile, Michael goes home to talk to Starr.
Michael: You wouldn't believe what my dad just said!
Starr: He's dating your mother?
Michael: You knew?
Starr: Long story, but it's not a real relationship.
Michael: What?
Starr: They are pretending to annoy my father.
Michael: Oh. Now what?
Starr: Sexytimes?
Michael: Works for me.
And so they have sexytimes. Then Starr gets a call.
Starr: Langston? Is that you? What's wrong?
The call continues until Starr ends it.
Michael: What's wrong?
Starr: I have to go to LA.
While Michael processes that, let's go see what Lucy and Scott are up to at City Hall!
Lucy: We need a marriage license.
Clerk: Mazel tov but we're closed.
Lucy: But we need it now.
Clerk: Lady, I think you can wait.
Lucy: Well, it's not for us. It's for him and his fiancee.
Clerk: They can wait.
Lucy: No. They can't. This is Scotty Baldwin. He was once one of you.
Clerk: Aren't you the one everybody hated?
Lucy: What?
Scotty: The writers weren't too kind to me my last go-around.
Lucy: Oh. Sorry.
Scotty: I guess we'll have to come back tomorrow.
Lucy: No, you're getting married tonight. MAYOR!
Mayor: Oh. Lord.
Lucy: No, Lucy.
Mayor: I remember.
Lucy: This is my friend Scotty.
Mayor: Oh, yes.
Lucy: He wants to get married but missed the deadline to get a license.
Mayor: Tough.
Lucy: Fine. I guess Todd will want to print the story about how the Daytime Scooby Gang got pardons and how the mayor lied to the people of Port Charles.
Mayor: Alright, alright. You win.
Lucy: YAY! (To Scotty) Call Laura!
Laura, meanwhile, is frozen with everyone as the ticking continues. Luke recovers first.
Luke: Everybody out! Scotty wants to blow us up!
Laura: LUKE!
Luke: Fine. The Cassadines want to blow us up!
Dante: I'll call the bomb squad even though they were absolutely useless during the whole Jerry Jacks ordeal.
As everyone tries to leave, the phone rings. Even though it's cordless, Lulu stands there to answer it. TAKE THE PHONE WITH YOU!
Lulu: Hi, Aunt Bobbie? Did you send a present? You did? What is it?
Luke: Pleasantries later, Lesley-Lu. GET OUT!
But instead Lulu goes to the present, opens it and pulls out a bear with a clock in the stomach.
Lulu: Some bomb.
Luke: Don't ever do that again.
Olivia goes weak at the news as Dante catches her.
Dante: I'm taking you to Titular Hospital.
Olivia: I'm fine.
Dante: No, you're not. And you are not arguing.
Olivia: Who is the parent again?
Dante escorts Olivia from the apartment while Laura gets the call from Scotty and leaves. She arrives at City Hall.
Laura: What's going on?
Scotty: Our wedding!
Laura: WHAT?
Scotty: We're getting married here and now. Lucy's gonna be your maid of honor.
Lucy: Hi, Laura!
Laura: Lucy. Hi. But no. I want Lulu to be my maid of honor.
Lucy: Okay, fair enough.
Scotty: So call her.
Laura: Okay, fine.
So Laura makes the call. Back at the No-Tell Motel, Sam and John are in the middle of a makeout session. They break their kiss off.
Sam: We can't do this.
John: You're right.
Sam: It was great.
John: It was.
Sam: Good luck.
John: You too.
And so Sam leaves John's room as the episode ends.
